This story reminds me of something my roommate went through. My roommate is non-binary and sort of masculine looking with a short haircut even though they have not started on testosterone. A customer at Hy-Vee complained that they were in the women's bathroom. This is funny since their birth sex is female but it shows precisely why people need to get over this sort of nonsense about policing who goes in what bathroom.
At the same time I am a transgender woman and I get funny looks from people when I use the men's restroom. Still I always stick with the men's restroom because I at least still have a penis to show anybody who does force a genital inspection. These are the kind of things trans people have to think about and mentally prepare for. There are so many worries and "what ifs" that we have to deal with that cisgender people don't..
